Sensory Learning Support is an approved Specialist Support Provider for the Training for Success programme. We offer support to participants who have sight, hearing or communication difficulties at all levels of training and throughout Northern Ireland.

SLS Tutors are teachers with additional specialist qualifications in teaching young people with sensory impairments. We are proficient in sign language communication. SLS tutors have many years experience in special education and in training support.

Individualised Support is central to our strategy. Whatever the degree or effect of sight, hearing or communication difficulties, our aim is that young people with sensory impairments should have the same access to training as their peers and an equal opportunity to achieve success.

A Customised Support Programme will be developed, based upon individual needs. It may include:

• Liaison with parents
• Liaison with teachers, speech & language therapists, medical consultants and other professionals
• Disability Awareness Training for tutors and employers
• Advice on communication, teaching strategies, technical aids, computer customisation, mobility, examination arrangements, health & safety and many other issues
• Sign language communication support
• One-to-one teaching
• One-to-one learning support
• Workplace induction
• Job coaching
• Interview and meeting support
• Provision of reader, scribe or communicator in examinations
• Counselling and pastoral care
